How long does a new bathroom take to fit?

A realistic timeline from a local bathroom fitter, so you know what to expect before the work starts.

Typical 5–10 days One tradesman Kept tidy

Most people picture a bathroom being ripped out and back together in a weekend. In reality a proper job takes a little longer than that — but knowing the timeline up front makes it far less stressful.

As a rough guide, most new bathrooms take around 5 to 10 working days. A simple refresh in the same layout can be done in 2 to 3 days, while a big or high-spec bathroom — especially if the layout is moving — can run to two weeks or more.

A typical bathroom, roughly day by day

  • Day 1 — Strip out. The old suite, tiles and any waste come out, and the room is prepped.
  • Days 2–3 — First fix. Any pipework and wiring is moved or renewed while the walls are open.
  • Days 3–5 — Boarding and tiling. Walls and floor are made good, waterproofed where needed, then tiled.
  • Days 5–7 — Second fix. The suite, shower, basin and toilet go in and get connected.
  • Final day — Finishing and testing. Sealing, silicone, a full test, and the room left clean and tidy.

What can add a few days

  • Full-height tiling on every wall rather than just the wet areas.
  • Moving the toilet, basin or bath to a new spot (more plumbing).
  • Waiting on a specific suite or tiles to be delivered.
  • Surprises behind the old walls — worn pipework or damp that's best sorted while everything's open.

Tiling in particular needs time to set properly between stages. Rushing it is how you end up with problems later, so it's worth letting it breathe.

How Declan Gent keeps it moving

Because Dec takes on the whole bathroom fit himself — plumbing, tiling and finishing — there's no waiting around for different trades to turn up. He gives you a realistic timeline before he starts, tells you which days the room will be off-limits, and keeps the place as tidy as he can while he works. If anything unexpected crops up behind the walls, he'll talk it through with you rather than spring a surprise.
